What I'm Listening To: Remix Edition

i discovered alt-j a little while back and really enjoy the low-set vocals and drawn out melodies. ellie goulding recently released an extension of her album halcyon, halcyon days, and one of the bonus tracks is an artistic remix of the alt-j song "tessellate." i instantly fell in love.

Outside Lands 2013: What I Heard

Because I have so much to share about my three days in the wonderful sf golden gate park, i am instating a three part outside lands series. starting with the music of course...

you literally could not have dropped me in a more perfect place: non-stop live music, delicious local food and 65,000 people just as passionate about music as i am. for 72 hours i got to run around without a care in the world, clad in my staple wardrobe of boots, scarves and sweaters. i don't think my face has ever been so sore from smiling, my voice so hoarse from singling and my neck so knotted from swaying to the beat. 

the weekend started off with a chill vibe, my friends and i laying on the grass listening to the smith westerns in the background. the mellow crowd clattering around us set the stage for what was to come.

there is no way to clump all the music i saw into one category so i made three. here we go.

my favs: my favs are the classics, bands that i listen to on the reg and couldn't help but scream for when they came on stage.

Coachella 2013..or not

as the world knows this weekend is week 1 of coachella, all the apartments are cleared out with only a few stragglers cramming their cars full, ready for a weekend of good music, good friends and let's just say good times. i unfortunately will not be joining these lucky folks but for those of you like me, do not fret there is still hope. coachella has set up a life stream for a majority of the acts so guess what people, we can enjoy live music from the comfort of our apts, so there!

finals means hours in the library, an endless stack of notecards and coming dangerously close to overdosing on caffeine. while actually studying is painful, the hours i spend with earphones stuck in my ears give me the chance to discover new music and appreciate some of my old favs. check out my new favorite band Beach House! whether your studying for that big exam or just need to relax, listen to them. you'll thank me.

Music Spotlight: Ellie Goulding

    i was super excited to finally make it to the hollywood palladium yesterday and on top of that see ellie goulding in such a great venue. i was a little skeptical about seeing her live because of all the overlay she uses in her songs, but i could not have been more surprised. her voice is amazingly unique and she was flawless. for one of my favorite songs, "guns and horses" she pulled out the guitar and played a beautiful acoustic version. on top of that she looked sheek as ever in high wasted leather shorts and a black cut out top. one of my new style icons to watch out for.
